Migraines: An Overview

Far more than simple headaches, migraines consist of intense pulsing pain, often on one side of the head. They may last hours or even days and are often accompanied by vomiting, nausea, disorientation, dizziness and sensitivity to light, visual disturbances, or tingling on one side of the body. Their cause is unclear but researchers are considering changes in the brainstem and chemical imbalance in the brain. There appears to be a genetic propensity toward migraines as well. They affect women more than men (1).

Regular migraine sufferers may notice warning signs in the days before an attack. These include:

  • Constipation
  • Mood changes
  • Cravings
  • Stiff neck
  • Thirstiness and increased urination
  • Yawning

Being aware of these signs and keeping a "migraine journal" may help sufferers deflect the onset of an episode as well as understand their particular triggers and symptoms.

While migraines are not yet completely understood, there are several common triggers (2):

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Lack of food or sleep
  • Exposure to light
  • Hormonal changes (women)
  • Medication
  • Alchohol
  • Certain Foods

Living with migraines can be debilitating and drawbacks exist for even the most helpful prescription medications. These include nausea, ulcers, constipation and addiction. There are many other possible treatments. Lifestyle changes, including alterations to diet and sleep schedule as well as stress management, may help. As may massage and acupuncture (3). We also suggest the use of a supplement, especially one which provides an all natural solution to the imbalances and stress that may lead to a migraine attack. There are many to choose from, and here we review one of the contenders. Learn more by reading our MigraClear (4) review below.

1. MigraClear Ingredients

MigraClear's active ingredients are all natural and largely plant based. Several items are now being clinically studied to examine their effectiveness in preventing and treating migraines. MigraClear's ingredients include the following:

  • Magnesium - A mineral essential to good health. Many migraine sufferers are found to have abnormally low levels of magnesium. MigraClear helps bring this into balance.
  • Feverfew - A member of the daisy family, feverfew is a traditional remedy for migraine headaches. It also helps reduce nausea and visual disturbances.
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) - Riboflavin helps increase the oxygen absorption of tissue and also reduces stress, a common migraine trigger.
  • White Willow Bark - Willow bark contains salicin, a chemical similar to the active ingredient in aspirin and is a good pain reliever. White willow bark complements feverfew, increasing the effectiveness of both.
  • Butterbur - Another longstanding herbal treatment. It has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. In its natural state butterbur contains small amounts of pyrrolizidine alkaloids which over time may harm the liver. However, the butterbur in MigraClear is formulated to remove all toxins, rendering it safe for long term use.
  • Ginger - Ginger is a natural serotonin uptake inhibitor. Doctors have found that serotonin levels drop during migraine attacks. (1) Ginger helps to address this imbalance. Ginger's known anti-nausea properties make it an excellent choice for combating migraine symptoms.
  • Wild Yam Root - Like butterbur, wild yam root is known to have antispasmodic properties to help with relaxation and the easing of migraine pain.
  • Black Pepper (Peperine) - Peperine works in combination will all the other ingredients, increasing their effectiveness and absorption.

It pleases us to note that MigraClear is made in the United States in an FDA registered cGMP certified factory (5). Its ingredients meet or exceed the guidelines for purity and strength set out by the USP/NF (United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary). Additionally, MigraClear contains no fillers, flavorings or colorants. This is especially important as many migraine sufferers have chemical sensitivities that may lead to or exacerbate an attack. Supplements without these safeguards may actually worsen the condition they are supposed to treat.

2. Purchasing MigraClear

It is important that those afflicted with migraines have ready access to treatments. Online ordering is quick and convenient through the manufacturer's MigraClear website. The product is sol in one, two, four and six-bottle packs and the multi-bottle packages come with a marked discount. At the time of this writing, one bottle was $49.95, two $69.90 and four $111.80. The best per-bottle deal was the six-pack with a total cost of $139.80 a savings of $26.65 per bottle.

MigraClear accepts major credit cards, as well as payment through both PayPal and Amazon. The buyer may choose between the US Post Office for standard shipping and FedEx or UPS for expedited delivery.

We appreciate that unlike some competitors, MigraClear does not engage in automatic reshipment, leaving customers free to buy more when they choose.

3. The MigraClear Guarantee and Customer Feedback

One of the first things we look at when assessing a supplement company is the guarantee. A manufacturer certain in the efficacy of its product will offer a good guarantee; the less likely it is to be needed the better it generally will be. MigraClear's guarantee is very good. A customer dissatisfied for any reason may return the product for up to 60 days after the purchase date. That this policy extends to unopened and opened products impressed us greatly. Opened product is valueless to the producer as it cannot be resold. MigraClear's refunding of opened bottles tells us they put the customer first and have confidence in the product.

4. Conclusion Of Our Consumer Health MigraClear Review
