What Is Ringworm?

Ringworm has nothing to do with worms and is, in fact, a fungal infection of the skin. It often presents as a raised, red, circular rash with clearer skin within its boundaries (1). It can be unsightly and extremely itchy. Closely related to athletes foot, it is very common and quite contagious. It may be picked up from an infected animal, person or places like locker rooms (2). Many treatments exist including prescription and drug store medications. Here we review RingWormClear.

1. Preventing Ringworm

While ringworm is extremely common, preventative action may help lessen the chances of contracting it. These include (3):

  • Fungi need moist environments to thrive. Keep your skin warm and dry.
  • Close fitting clothing, such as socks and underwear should be changed at least once a day, to allow air to circulate and skin to dry.
  • Never go barefoot in moist, warm places such as locker rooms and saunas.
  • Remove hiding spots for fungi by keeping nails trimmed and clean.
  • Do not share bedding, clothing or towels with someone carrying ringworm.
  • Animals are commonly infected. Always wash your hands in warm running water and soap after playing with pets. If a companion animal does have ringworm, take it to the veterinarian for treatment.

Unfortunately, the ubiquity of the fungus makes total protection from ringworm impossible. There are many over the counter remedies but these can be quite harsh and may cause side effects such as upset stomach, fever, skin irritation, itching or burning. We feel that a natural solution is better. That is why we are reviewing RingWormClear.

2. RingWormClear: Ingredients and Dosage

RingWormClear is a topical application. It contains the following ingredients.

  • Undecylenic Acid - This is an unsaturated fatty acid extracted from castor oil. It interferes with the lifecycle of the fungus, preventing reproduction. This causes the infection to die out and keeps it from spreading.
  • Flax Seed Oil - Rich in Omega3 fatty acid, flax seed oil helps soothe and heal irritated skin.
  • Sweet Almond Oil - Like flax seed oil, sweet almond oil is rich in alpha-linoleic acid and contains vitamins A, E and D. Almond oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It also softens and moisturizes skin to help it absorb the ingredients of RingWormClear.
  • Jojoba Oil- Extracted from the Simmondsia chinensis plant, Jojoba oil has antifungal properties. It softens skin and contains both phospholipids and vitamin E which may promote healing.
  • Tea Tree (Melaleuca) Oil - Tea tree oil also has antifungal and antimicrobial properties and soothes the skin.
  • Aloe Barbadensis - Also know as aloe vera, this hydrates and softens skin while reducing inflammation.
  • Juglans Nigra (Black Walnut) Oil - This oil contains juglone and iodine. Together they have a powerful antifungal effect.
  • Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Oil - Rich with antifungal and antimicrobial properties, this soothing oil can also reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Propolis - An ancient remedy obtained from bees, this resinous compound has antimicrobial, antifungal and soothing effects.
  • Vitamin E - This fat-soluble antioxidant helps to hydrate skin and reduce the likelihood of infection.
  • Menthol - This mint extract has a cooling analgesic effect and may help to counter the bothersome itching associated with ringworm.
  • Camphor Oil - This is a soothing and itch-reducing anti-inflammatory.
  • Chia Oil - Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and trace minerals, chia oil helps soothe and repair the skin.
  • Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Oil - Known for its topical pain-relieving abilities, clove oil also has marked antiseptic and anti-fungal properties.
  • Lavender Oil - This pleasant-smelling oil is another potential antifungal agent.
  • Manuka Oil - This is a traditional remedy with antimicrobial, antifungal and healing effects.
  • Mineral Oil - A common moisturizer, mineral oil softens and enriches skin, promoting healing.
  • Canola Oil - This common cooking oil also has antioxidant properties, containing omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. It may help maintain a healthy and balance skin biome.
